Music is all around us, but it also can be elusive. While the visuals are what the viewer tends to mostly focus on, the sound is what subconsciously alters how the visuals are perceived. That is why music has been used as a storytelling tool since the beginning of time.

Expressing emotions, thoughts, and ideas through music has never been an easy path. Every storytelling process without exception has its challenges. Today, as creatives continue to push the boundaries of both visual and sound-based genres, new ways of linking sound with visuals emerge on a daily basis.

There are dozens of new online platforms to showcase creative work, but with millions of people exploring their creativity, it’s easy to get swamped in the noise of digitalization. These storytelling challenges have become more relevant than ever. While the connection between visuals and audio in film and video production (including television and advertising) is well-known, it is not always well-understood.

That’s why we decided to take a different approach, to dig into the psychology of pairing image and audio to better understand the core reasons certain audio tracks click with their paired visuals to produce a pitch-perfect experience.
